This free poetry contest is open to all poets of any age,
whether they have been previously published or not.
All are eligible without regard to sex, race or experience.
Present and previous employees of the Poetry Institute of Africa
are not eligible. Neither are their families or relatives.
Each poet may submit one poem only
in English or Afrikaans.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of each contest.
Prizes are as follows:-
First Prize is R3000,00 cash;
5 Second prizes of R500,00 each;
10 Third Prizes of R100,00
and 20 Fourth Prizes of R50,00 each.

In addition to our existing prizes in our 'Student' Contest,
we will now award a computer as a prize, to the school
that has the highest percentage of student poems,
accepted by our selection committee.
We will also donate complimentary copies
of the anthology to all schools whose students
have won a prize in the competition!

Judging is performed by a literary committee
and is based on best poetic ability in
thought, expression, originality and imagination.

Any verse form is acceptable, but within the 24 line limit.
Judges decisions are final.
There is no fee or subsidy payment required.

All poems submitted are the property of the poet.
Poem entries accepted by our selection committee
may be published in our Anthology/Book of Verse.

Whether published or not, however, the poem
always remains the property of the poet.
The poet is not obliged to purchase a copy of the anthology/book
in which his/her poem appears.

Prize winners will be notified
as soon as the contest is decided.
